HAL 9000

The glossary is being gradually proof checked, but currently has many typos and misspellings.

HAL 9000 was the computer in the film "2001 A Space Odyssey", which developed emotions and consciousness. In the film it becomes afraid when it makes a mistake, and then murderously paranoid. HAL is eventually turned off, but as this happens pleads for its continuing existence.
