HAL 9000

HAL 9000 was the computer in the film "2001 A Space Odyssey", which developed emotions and consciousness. In the film it becomes afraid when it makes a mistake, and then murderously paranoid fearing. HAL is evetually turned off, but as this happens pleads for its continuing existence.
